I’m born and raised in Miami Florida. I haven’t traveled to another country yet other than Canada. I don’t know what it’s like in other countries. But here in the states there are city pockets that are comprised mostly of a particular culture, whether it is Asian, Jewish, “Black”, Italian etc. Sometimes the people who live in these pockets make their way out of their pocket, and I have the pleasure of meeting them, or even just experiencing their presence around me.
Sometimes I’m the one visiting a business staffed by people of a different cultural background like India, or Pakistan. Every time, I’m overwhelmed with interest to know what life is like for them. I want to know what types of challenges, if any, they encounter living here? What are their native customs? What are their values?
I feel lucky to have them here because I can’t get to their country yet. They’ve brought their country to me!!
I want more of a connection than just “credit or debit? Paper or plastic?” Like the girl says in the film “Waking Life” by Richard Linklater. “I want to see you. I want you to see me. I don’t want to give that up”
Talk to me.

Hey Kramer! I am from India , A country of ethnic and cultural diversity with hearts of unity, where Love unites all, whether created or uncreated. India is a country of ‘Gurus’ who taught and instilled ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ and ‘Atithi Devo Bhavah’ 🙂

Thank you for that message! You know I had begun planning a group trip to India in 2012, but the group began falling apart so I put my money somewhere else. It sounds beautiful and I’ve seen videos and pictures. But what are those last two names you write? What did the Guru’s teach?

India is a country where Hindus are in majority ( 79.8%) and in ancient times when Mughals invaded India , they call her Hindustan ,meaning A Land of Hindus , but Today It’s India, The largest democracy of the world despite having religious, ethnic, linguistic and cultural diversity, India get its name back in ancient times when Greek crossed the River Indus and named Indus people as Indoi which later transformed to India (a persian word). Now as you were asking about ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ and ‘Atithi Devo Bhavah’ , i insist you to google them 😝 , ‘m presently living in Gurugram (known as Gurgaon or ‘Cyber City’) and the name of my city says It’s a City of Gurus ;[Guru (leader/teacher/sage)+Gram (village/town)] now it’s your time to find more about India, about Indians, about the Geography or the History, if you are interested, but genuinely speaking India is very rich in all aspects, once you start digging, you’ll find it more interesting, your mind will become more inquisitive, and gradually.. what else! 🙂 Good Luck!
