Handling Zealots

I’ve seen some people get pretty worked up over zealots being over-zealous, and I totally get it. But at the end of the day, zealots are people, and they’re just doing what they believe is right for them (and you). There’s really no need to be rude or insulting. A simple acknowledgement that you’ve heard them, and a polite departure from the conversation is enough to bring the experience to an end.

Asserting our viewpoint by making someone else wrong only creates antogonism, and it really doesn’t make us any more right than we were before. Many of us would like to live in a world where our realities are shared by everyone. It would be the pinnacle of ultimate understanding. But that’s not how life works.

You can argue for your rightness, or you can have the self-confidence to know you don’t need to defend your viewpoint, or invalidate the viewpoint of others in order to remain at peace with yourself and your environment.
